Flower Festival, April 8
Hanamatsuri Service - April 9
The Flower Festival commemorates the birth of Siddhartha Gautama, the manifestation of Amida Buddha.
A hanamido (flower shrine) is placed in front of the altar to embody Lumbini Garden, the place of Gautama's birth.
A statuette of the infant Buddha is placed in the shrine and sweet tea is poured over the figure.
Kambutsu is the rite of "bathing the body of the Buddha".
